Rapinoe re-entered the United States in 2011 after playing in a couple of games with Sydney Football Club FC, the Australian W-League. Her next club was the Seattle Washington Sounders Women. They are now they are the Sound FC. She was playing currently in France for this season. She was then a part of in the Seattle Reign FC now OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League NWSL which had formed after the WPS broke up. Rapinoe was one of the club's top scorers and eventually became coach of the club. She played for the U.S. Olympic soccer women team which competed in London England. Rapinoe had a significant role on the team that won gold medals at London 2012 Olympics. Rapinoe had several assists as well as goals to help winning games. Her second appearance was at the Olympics at Rio de Janeiro Brazil in the year 2016. In Rio, she and the U.S. lost in the quarterfinals. The first time Rapinoe played was at the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2011. Her contributions helped her to enable the U.S. Women's World Cup to claim two consecutive championships in 2015 and 2019. In 2018, she was appointed cocaptain. In the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 virus. Rapinoe had two goals in the bronze medal match as she helped the United States defeated Australia by an aggregate four-to-3 score.
